Well, it's official: April is definitely serious about her showers. But I have to admit-- that only makes me more excited for the vibrant colors of May. As the weather shifts and the snowpocalypse becomes a distant-- albeit traumatizing-- memory, the people of Cincinnati are finally setting aside the blankets and sweatshirts and emerging from their warm homes to go out and enjoy our gorgeous city. So I sifted through blogs and tweets to find events so exciting they may even give you or your date a case of spring fever. (Click the picture for a link to more info).
In support of our friends at Bake Me Home, this mixer really caters to foodies. (Aren't we all "foodies" at heart?) Guests will be treated to cooking demos by Colonel De Stewart and Caitlin Bertsch of OTR's Park + Vine. Beer, wine, mixed drinks, and light appetizers will be served as guests meet and mingle from 7-9pm. As a special treat, Brighter Dates' attendees will go home with Bake Me Home's signature oatmeal chocolate chip cookies! (As a cookie connoisseur, I can say they're top notch). Proceeds from the mixer will benefit Bake Me Home, a local nonprofit devoted to helping families leaving shelters celebrate the beginning of a new life in a new home. Ready for the icing on the cake?
Downstairs, Bake Me Home will be holding their annual Boutique, sponsored by Brighter Dates! Local vendors like Park + Vine, Truckshop Mobile Boutique, CEI Sports, Colonel De Gourmet Herbs and Spices, Hyde Park's Nest, and Cocoa Bites will set up shop in support of Bake Me Home. Proceeds from Boutique sales will also benefit Bake Me Home. Come sip, and savor, socialize, and shop while learning from two of Cincinnati's finest chefs! "Cheers to Baseball" really knocked it out of the park last night! Guests were treated to a personal tour of over 5,000 square feet of baseball memorabilia-- and that's one man's private collection! They toasted with Rhinegeist beers, sipped Vinoklet wines, and sampled Bonbonerie desserts all while showing support for The Character and Courage Foundation. We at Brighter Dates feel thrilled to have met such a great group of people. Special thanks to all of our guests and Assistant Manager Bobby Bench (yes, that's the legendary Johnny Bench's son!) at The Green Diamond Gallery for providing the tour.
1. Lack of chemistry A Brighter Dates mixer is set up just like any organic social situation; you can communicate with singles of your choice for as long as you feel comfortable. No spark? Chat with another guest. 2. Fear of rejection You won't have to ask for numbers at a Brighter Dates mixer. When it's over, log in to BrighterDates.com and choose your favorite singles at your convenience. Kind of shy? Select your favorites under the "anonymous" setting for extra privacy. 3. Inaccurate or outdated profile pictures A Brighter Dates representative will take your picture at every mixer and upload it to your profile for you, ensuring the legitimacy of every Brighter Dates user's profile picture. 4. First-date jitters Your comfort is important to us. If you're slightly shy, a Brighter Dates representative will be more than happy to facilitate introductions. 5. Public dating profiles Your profile cannot be seen by any users until you attend a mixer. After the mixer, members of the opposite gender will only be able to see your photograph unless you have granted them access to your profile. 6. Lengthy online dating questionnaires and personality inventories Users can create and complete their profiles in just minutes. This allows people to get to know each other the old fashioned way-- through asking questions and listening. Ready to create a free account? Navigate to BrighterDates.com and check out our event calendar. We hope to see you soon!
It is a myth in our culture that a person must be in a relationship to celebrate or enjoy Valentine’s Day. Who started that, anyway? All finger-pointing aside, I think it’s time for a paradigm shift. Romantic love is not the only form of love. Coupled up or not, we at Brighter Dates want to encourage our readers to think beyond cliche images of red roses and assorted chocolates this year. As an alternative, I’ve compiled a list of simple and inclusive ways for Cincinnatians to celebrate Valentine’s Day through gratitude, compassion, and giving.
