‘Tis the season for holiday baking, and today’s featured charity knows a thing or two about it. Readers, say hello to Bake Me Home!
After volunteering at a local homeless shelter, Alison Bushman’s daughters Amy and Emma expressed interest in sweetening the lives of local families. They created Bake Me Home, an organization that supports women and children as they transition to their own homes from shelters. Bake Me Home distributes tote bags filled with spoons, mixing bowls, cookie mix, and other essentials for baking to give recipients the opportunity to create meaningful memories in the kitchen of their new home.
Their success inspired them to cook up more programs, including Bake Me Back Home, which sends their signature oatmeal chocolate chip cookies to servicemen and women around the world. Another heartwarming venture is Picture Me Home that provides families in need with professional photographs; for some, it is the only picture they have of their children. So far this December, Bake Me Home has filled 100 tote bags, and Picture Me Home has taken 40 portraits. That’s a lot of work, but we can help!
